Mass Transit: Designed in China
Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 11:53AM At first glance, the artist renderings of this Chinese "straddling bus" make it look like a "land ferry" that carries people in the top and cars in the bottom.
But it's really an electric bus that straddles two lanes of traffic!
Cars drive right under it, like through a tunnel.
They are building these things in Dongguan Province, where I shot my documentary in 1986.
I have always wondered if the creativity in countries like China and India will eventually match their manufacturing capacity. (There is a reason why all products from Apple, Inc. have a label that says "Designed in California.")
This proves to me that China has plenty of home-grown creativity.

This thing will come with a label that says "Designed and Built in China."
They don't need any help from any Californians or anybody else!
